Review the Preparation Path

A sustained intellectual and musical partnership

The coaching relationship is the framework for the scholarship

Advanced Studies is not a collection of unrelated high-level services. The yearlong one-to-one relationship provides the continuity needed to connect performance, analysis, composition, historical context, disciplined inquiry, and original research.

One-to-one musical coaching

Develop repertoire, technique, interpretation, practice methods, and performance projects through sustained private guidance.

Collaborative research and scholarship

Observe patterns, test hypotheses, refine interpretations, and develop work that can contribute to serious understanding of Bach, Beethoven, and symbolic composition.

The expected preparation sequence

Enter Zach’s world through the flagship courses first

Most Advanced Studies candidates should already have completed FĂĽr Elise, completed Moonlight Sonata when available, and made substantial progress through the Well-Tempered Clavier / Masterworks pathway.

FĂĽr Elise course

1. FĂĽr Elise

The focused 10-week entry point into complete performance study and score-based musical symbolism.

A customized year of work

A project may unite several kinds of mastery

Performance and interpretation

Prepare substantial repertoire while connecting technical decisions to structure, expression, and meaning.

Analysis and composition

Study the compositional processes behind the repertoire and test insights through writing, arranging, or original composition.

Research questions

Develop careful, revisable hypotheses grounded in musical evidence, context, comparison, and disciplined observation.

Scholarly communication

Shape findings into clear written, recorded, or performance-based work suited to the student’s goals and level.

Selective yearlong enrollment

Yearlong one-to-one coaching: $25,000

Admission is based on preparation, goals, project fit, and availability. The first step is a substantive conversation about prior work, the proposed year of study, and whether Advanced Studies is the right next level.

This pathway is not intended as a first introduction to the method. Begin with the flagship Classical Piano courses when additional preparation is needed.
